"If a tyre expires, it is prone to tyre-burst and can lead to accident", FRSC advises
Motorists have been advised to change their tyres regularly.
During a familiarisation visit to FRSC Unit Command under Zaria in Kaduna State, the Marshal urged motorists to check their tyre dates regularly, Today reports.
“I want to call on motorists to be mindful of the tyres they use because tyres are just like drugs, they have expiration dates.
If a tyre expires, it is prone to tyre-burst and can lead to accident.
Authoritatively, between January and April, we have had several cases of tyre related-road-traffic crashes.
We will use this opportunity to educate members of motoring public on it.
If they are buying a tyre, they should make sure they check the expiry dates.
They will see DOM on the side of the tyre; meaning date of manufacture.
So, you calculate four years after manufacturing date.
No matter how new a tyre is, once it has spent four years, there is the tendency that it will burst,” he warned.
