UI pays tribute to an icon

The premier institution was eternally grateful to Oba Odulana for his wonderful contributions to the sustainable growth of University.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Abel Olayinka has dubbed the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana, Odugade 1, one of the institution’s quintessential icons, NAN reports.

He made this statement on January 20, through the University’s Director of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Oladejo.

In the statement, Oladejo states that premier institution was eternally grateful to Oba Odulana for his wonderful contributions to the sustainable growth of University.

“Right from the beginning of the institution, he showed tremendous interest in the activities of the university and will remain one of the towering figures in the history of the institution,” the statement said.

“Even when he was frail in health, he continued to encourage the enthronement of good governance in Nigeria through intellectual discourses and contributions,” he added.

The statement also said that Oba Odulana also helped to build a generation of hardworking, decent and transparent Nigerians through his services in many capacities as a teacher, public administrator, soldier, and politician.

“We are encouraged by the fact that he was an uncommon gift to the education family, in particular and humanity, in general.

“His immense legacy will surely continue to be a guiding light to future generations,’’ the statement said.
