Pontiff apologises to catholics on recent sex scandals

"Today ... in the name of the Church, I ask you for forgiveness for the scandals that have occurred recently either in Rome or in the Vatican."

 

In an unprepared remarkon Wednesday, October 14, 2015 Pope Francis asked for forgiveness on recent scandals in the Vatican and Rome during a major meeting of bishops at St Peter's Square.

Earlier this month, two cases of priests involved in gay sex were revealed.

"Today ... in the name of the Church, I ask you for forgiveness for the scandals that have occurred recently either in Rome or in the Vatican.

On Oct. 3, a Polish monsignor working in the Vatican's doctrinal office since 2003 held a packed news conference in which he disclosed that he was gay and had been living with another man for years.

The Vatican dismissed Monsignor Krzysztof Charamsa, a theologian, from his job there as well as from teaching assignments in pontifical universities in Rome.

Since the pontiff’s election in 2013, the pope has asked forgiveness for sexual abuse of children by clergys' and also for the church’s treatment of Protestants and indigenous people in the course of its history.

Pope Francis made a historical visit to the USA in September for the Festival of families, where he commended America its religious freedom and addressed the issue of immigration, Divorce, Family.

The Vatican confirmed that the pontiff will be visiting Africa in November 2015 and Mexico in 2016.
