‘I collected N100M from PDP not former NSA or Yuguda,’ Jim Nwobodo says

Nwobodo said further that he only received N100 million from former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Adamu Muazu for “campaign logistics”.

Former NSA, Sambo Dasuki appears in court on money laundering charges on December 14, 2015

Former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo has denied reports that he received N500 million out of funds allegedly looted by former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Nwobodo said further that he only received N100 million from former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Adamu Muazu for “campaign logistics”.

The former governor made the disclosure on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, during an interview with Premium Times.

“I have never met Sambo Dasuki. I know Yuguda as former minister, that is all. What happened was that I was invited alongside 15 leaders of PDP in the South East to the residence of Ahmed Muazu to collect the money allocated to our zone by the PDP,” Nwobodo said.

“Three party leaders were selected from each of the five states of the South East. I was selected to lead a committee of 15 to collect the N100million, which was shared to each one of us for campaign logistics in our respective states.

“I was surprised to hear that a report quoted me as saying I collected N500million from Muazu. This is sheer lie as I have never previously spoken to any journalist on this issue but today. So how come somebody concocted a figure and attributed it to me?

“It was PDP as party that shared the money for campaign not for our individual use,” he added.

Dasuki is being investigated for allegedly supervising the laundering of $2 billion in funds meant for the procurement of arms for Nigeria’s military.

The former NSA was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on December 1, 2015 and handed over to the EFCC the following day.

President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the arrest of Dasuki and others indicted in the alleged fraud after receiving a report submitted by a panel instituted by him to probe Nigeria’s arms purchases from 2007-2015.

The former NSA has been in the eye of the storm since being removed by Buhari in July.

His homes in Sokoto and Abuja were raided by agents of the DSS and he was subsequently charged with money laundering and illegal possession of weapons.

The EFCC has also arrested 20 of Dasuki's former staff, Chairman of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Raymond Dokpesi and former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa in connection with the allegations.

Dasuki has pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
