Sambo Dasuki, the former National Security Adviser, during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, has been accused of over N337b fraud.
Dasuki was allegedly indicted by the committee set up by President Buhari to look into the various arms purchase deals from 2007 till date.
President Buhari's media aide, Femi Adesina, was reported saying “It was observed that in spite of this huge financial intervention, very little was expended to support defence procurement."
He also said “The committee also discovered that payments to the tune of N3,850,000,000.00 were made to a single company by the former NSA without documented evidence of contractual agreements or fulfillment of tax obligations to the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
“Further findings revealed that between March 2012 and March 2015, the erstwhile NSA, Lt. Col. MS Dasuki (rtd) awarded fictitious and phantom contracts to the tune of N2,219,188,609.50, $1,671,742,613.58 and €9,905,477.00,” Adesina said.
At approximately N197 to a dollar, N212.563 to a Euro, the total funds amount to over N337b.
The President’s aide also said that above sum was meant for the purchase of four Alpha Jets, 12 helicopters, bombs and ammunitions which were never supplied.
He also said accused the former NSA of awarding contracts worth N350,000,000.00, $1,661,670,469.71 and €9,905,477.00 to two companies, despite their “consistent non-performance.”
Dasuki is said to have allegedly directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to transfer huge sums of money ($132,050,486.97 and €9,905,473.55), to the bank accounts of Societe D’equipmente Internationaux in West Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America without any form of documentation.
President Buhari has since ordered the arrest of the former National Security Adviser, who was supposed to travel abroad for Cancer treatment, but was reportedly held under house arrest, by security operatives.
A 13 man committee was set up by President Buhari to look into the various arms purchase deals made on Nigeria’s behalf, from 2007 till date.
