Police arrest mastermind of herdsmen attack

The spokesman said the police will stop at nothing to ensure that those involved in the act are apprehended and brought to book.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 26, by the Enugu State Police Command spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, the suspect was identified as Umaru Isah from Gusau, capital of Zamfara.

Amaraizu said: “The Enugu State Police Command in its resolve to unmask the perpetrators of the attack on Ndiagu Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu has nabbed one Umaru Isah over his alleged involvement in the incident.

“The suspect, who claimed to be 20 years of age, said he came to Enugu from Gusau in Zamfara State to rear cattle, but has none to rear till now.

“Investigations are still on with a view to unmasking his gang.”

Pulse recalls that the community was attacked by suspected herdsmen in the early hours of Thursday during which a Catholic seminarian, identified as Mr Lazarus Nwankwo, was killed.

Four other victims from the same family, including a pregnant mother, also received varied degrees of life-threatening machete cuts on their heads and stomach.

The latest attack came exactly four months after suspected herdsmen invaded and killed 11 persons and injured many others in Nimbo community in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of the state.
