Buhari orders cleansing of budget office over mistakes in document

Buhari is said to be very angry at the humiliation that the 2016 budget controversy has brought to his government.

Buhari is said to be very angry at the humiliation that the incident has brought to his government, according to Punch.

“The President is really angry over the discrepancies discovered in the 2016 budget. It has been confirmed that it was a clear case of sabotage. It was said to have been carried out by a budget mafia whose members are strongly enshrined in the office,” a government source told Punch.

“The President’s decision is that the former Director-General should not be the only casualty in this matter. He has ordered that the Budget Office should be purged.

“Many of the officials there will be sacked while others will be transferred to other places other than where they have already constituted themselves to a mafia,” the source added.

Buhari had on Monday, February 15, 2016, sacked the Director-General of the Budget Office, Yahaya Gusau over the controversy.

The budget has been the centre of controversy since it was reported missing from the Assembly premises in January.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki later said that two different versions of the document had been submitted to the legislative house.

The controversy was further compounded by strange and ridiculous figures which were attached to mundane items in the budget.
