On Tuesday, October 13, over 40 fully armed robbers in military uniforms, laid siege on two banks in Lagos in broad daylight, and for over one hour, they operated with reckless abandon, shooting sporadically into the air, using state of the art arms and ammunition, including dynamites and grenades.
Does the police has what it takes to combat crime in the country?
It seems the Nigeria Police cannot curb the incessant cases of armed robbery in the country. Do you believe this assertion?
After the successful operation, they made good their escape with millions of naira, while men of the Nigeria Police stormed the place after they were long gone.
Some few months ago, some armed bandits attacked a bank in the Lekki area of the state, carting away millions, and in the process, killing over six people including policemen.
Few weeks later, they attacked two banks simultaneously in Ikorodu, a stone throw from a police station, operating with precision and for several hours.
In all these cases, the police were no where to be found. It is the same in different parts of the country where robbers operate with relative ease.
While many can give excuses for their inability to confront the robbers due to their inadequate equipment, others still think there could even be some form of cooperation by some criminal elements in the force.
Others are of the belief that the welfare of the police have been neglected and as such, the officers would not want to risk their lives.
But on Morning Teaser today, we ask: do you think the Nigeria Police has the capability of combating armed robbery in the country?
