Do you support the police going on strike?

With men of the Nigeria Police Force threatening to go on strike on March 28, do you think they are justified?

If some aggrieved men of the Nigeria Police Force have their way, they will shut down the country with a mother of all strikes come March 28, 2015, the day set aside for the presidential elections.

The angry police officers, numbering about 15,000, have threatened and all encompassing strike that would disrupt the general elections if their demands are not met.

In their resolution on the action, the officers, said that they were promoted since December 2013, but that the police authorities had refused to pay them their new salaries.

They further said that after waiting for the police authorities for over a year, they were surprised that they were paid their new salaries with the January 2015 salaries, wondering why the money meant for the 13 month arrears was not included.

They also lamented the poor condition of service the policemen have been going through, including deductions in their salaries without reason, delayed promotion, poor living conditions and punitive measures meted out to them if they do not meet monetary targets set out for them by their superior officers.

With these grievances, the officers believe they have every reason to embark on a strike action.

On Morning Teaser today, we ask: do you support the police officers going on strike?
