The search for the missing Air Asia airplane might be over as pieces of debris seen floating off Indonesia's Kalimantan coast are believed to be part of the plane’s wreckage.
Several items were seen in the sea off Borneo Island and some of them resemble the components of a plane door and an emergency slide, according to AFP.
“This is the most significant finding, but we cannot confirm anything until the investigation is completed,”Yusuf Latif, a spokesperson for the Indonesia National Search and Rescue Agency said on Tuesday, December 30.
Meanwhile, the agency’s chief, Bambang Soelistyo has said that he is almost certain that the debris is from the missing plane.
"I am 95 percent sure that the location pictured is debris suspected to be from the aircraft," Soelistyo said.
The Air Asia Flight QZ8501, which had 162 people on board, went missing on Sunday, December 28, after requesting an “unusual” detour.
