23 killed, 20 missing in TransAsia plane crash

The TransAsia aircraft crashed into a river shortly after takeoff from a Taipei airport on Wednesday, February 4.

A plane carrying 58 passengers has crashed in Taiwan killing 23 people and leaving 20 more missing.

The TransAsia aircraft crashed into a river shortly after takeoff from a Taipei airport on Wednesday, February 4.

The ATR 72 turned sharply onto its side and struck a highway bridge before landing in the shallow river.

15 people are also said to have survived the crash as rescuers work frantically to save the passengers who are still trapped inside the wrecked plane.

Most of the passengers on board the flight were Chinese tourists from the southeastern city of Xiamen.
