Bomb blast kills 1 person, injures 7

The blasts are the latest in a bombing campaign blamed on Islamic militants who are targeting foreign and local economic and financial establishments.

No fewer than 7 people have been injured and 1 person left dead following a bomb explosion outside popular supermarket chain, Carrefour at Alexandria, Egypt.

MSN reports that the first blast, followed by a flash bang grenade killed 1 person and injured 6. The second bomb exploded outside the city's Muharram Bek police station, injuring 1 person.

It is widely believed the campaign could be designed to undermine confidence in Egypt ahead of a major, 3-day economic conference scheduled to open Friday in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, during which  projects worth up to $35-billion will be announced.

Earlier on Saturday, a bomb exploded in front of the branch of a major Emirati bank in a Nile Delta town north of the capital, Cairo.

The blast killed a policeman and a civilian and wounded 16 others.

Egypt has been grappling with an increasing Islamic insurgency in the strategic Sinai Peninsula for years, however attacks against army and police forces have dramatically increased since President Mohammed Morsi's removal from office, later spreading to the mainland.
