A groom was killed by a stray bullet which was fired by guests who were celebrating at his wedding party which held in Northern India.

28-yr-old Amit Rastogi was fatally hit on Wednesday February 17, in Uttar Pradesh state while leading his people to the bride's house according to custom in Indian weddings.

“He was hit by a bullet in the head apparently fired by someone from the marriage party but we are looking at other angles, including murder,” said the investigating police officer of the where the incident occurred.

The officer said the groom who was riding on a horse, fell after being hit by the bullet. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he was declared dead by doctors.

Celebratory firing though banned in Indian weddings or other events, is common across South Asia and in other regions.
