Meet photographer who takes pictures of dead babies, trying to give grieving parents a lasting image of their children that they can keep.

Kim Smith, 48, gets heartbreaking phone call from hospitals at any time and has done more than 30 sessions with parents and babies in the last 18 months.

“When I told my family I was going to do this they said ‘you can’t do that - you’re too emotional’ but I’ve surprised myself."

Kim, from the Wirral, was one of the first volunteers to sign up to charity Remember My Baby, which provides pictures for free.

The mum-of-three in an interview with Mirror UK revealed that says when she arrives at the hospital the parents are in shock but she finds it is usually the dads that struggle with the session more than the mums.

Kim explained that the babies are usually in different 'conditions' but the hardest ones for her to see are those who have died during child birth.

Since she joined Remember My Baby - set up in August 2014 - Kim has had to face strange looks and comments from people about what she does but she insists it doesn't bother her now.

She continued: “If you speak to people and tell them what you do you get one of two reactions.

“One is usually ‘Oh my god, why would you do that?’ and the other is people start to open up and say that they lost a child or know someone who has and wished they’d had pictures taken.

Remember my Baby are always recruiting for new volunteer photographers and Kim says although it can be nerve-racking it's so rewarding and would urge people to apply.

“If you can help someone you should." She added.
