Named Diesel Roberts when he was born, his parents Hazel Williams and Huw Roberts, said they wanted to find something that felt more fitting and Pop corn seemed like the perfect choice.
3-year-old boy wants his name changed to POPCORN after refusing to respond to anything else
A 3-year-old boy is getting his name changed to POPCORN - after his parents said he refuses to answer to any other name.
The couple have been referring to their son by the popular cinema snack since he was in the womb.
After hesitantly naming him Diesel on the birth certificate, it quickly became apparent to lorry driver Huw and 37-year-old mum Hazel that the name just wasn’t quite right.
“Popcorn, it was the obvious choice,” said Huw.
“He was a bit of a fighter during Hazel's pregnancy, and the kicks in the womb were like the popping that happens when you put the corn in the saucepan. It’s stuck ever since that day.”
Now due to start nursery in the coming year, Popcorn has taken such a liking to his second name that he refuses to be known by anything else. Mirror UK reported.
“We’ve always called him Popcorn, it started off as a nickname but now he won’t answer to anything else,” said self-employed mum Hazel.
“We love the name, it’s fun and all of our friends call him it and like it too.“
Next year the couple are hoping to make Popcorn’s name official by changing it from Diesel.
Popcorn is the baby of the family and is doted on by his teenage sisters Paige, 14, and Tyler, 16.
According to Mirror UK, Popcorn will become the first child in the UK to go by that name, should it be changed legally.
While the database shows that there are five people in the UK registered under the name Diesel, there is no record of any child named Popcorn.
