Mum sells home to fulfill son's dying wish

Yi Jiefang reportedly sold her home in China to enable her grant her son’s dying wish to have two million trees planted in the desert of Inner Mongolia.

Jiefang, 67, had reportedly lost her son, Yang Ruizhe in a tragic accident while he had been returning to his school, university in Japan in 2000.

Just before Ruizhe had died, he had told his mother of his lifelong dream to plant the trees in the desert of Inner Mongolia.

Following his death, Jiefang began working on this dream and has so far, succeeded in planting 1.1 million trees that stretch for miles on the Kulun Qi Horqin sandy desert plain.

In a recent interview with Youth Daily, Jiefang revealed her fears while undertaking the huge task, and her doubts that she would be able to see it through.

Speaking during the interview, she said:

"I did not expect to stick at this more than ten years, I hope that through our actions we can get hundreds of millions of people planting millions of trees.

"I think I have granted my son’s wish."

Jiefang also revealed that the death of Ruizhe had been so painful that she had not buried him until one year later, on December 1 2001, his birthday.
