Traffic on Apapa road has worsened recent times.
Not only is this affecting and annoying commuters, it also has a negative effect on business operators in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Speaking to WorldStage Newsonline, Rev Jonathan Nicol, President, Shippers’ Associations, Lagos State Chapter, said that the implications of the persistent Apapa traffic include, “economy pressure, reduction of man-hour and hardship to lives.”
He said that all this could be stopped if the government took care of the bad roads which are the main cause of the gridlock.
Rev Nicol also said that these bad roads could be fixed in two weeks if the government was serious.

Dr Farinto Kayode, National Press Secretary, Association of Nigeria License Customs Agents (ANLCA), revealed the extent of the damage caused by the traffic on Apapa road.
“We lost about N5 billion because of the gridlock, it’s not good for business. The Federal Government has awarded contracts for the bad roads to be repaired, but they are working at a very slow pace. Also, we don’t have a modern rail transportation system which would help to ease the gridlock situation.”
