FRSC convicts 50 drivers over road traffic violations

50 traffic offenders have been convicted over the course of two months in Kwara state.

Mr Abdulhakeem Abdulkareem, the Director of Operations, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has revealed the number of recent convictions in Irepodun, Kwara state.

These included vehicle particulars violation, overloading and jumping traffic light.

After appearing before Mobile Courts, their sentences ranged between three months and six months.

They were each given  the option of payment of fines.

Abdulkareem also spoke on the lack of a driver’s licence issuance office in the area.

"In spite of the availability of a well equipped and functional licensing centre in Omu-Aran, the non-availability of branches of commercial banks is slowing down the process.

The situation, whereby, some of the prospective licence- seekers still have to travel to Ilorin to effect payment for the document is disheartening,” he said.
