'2015 was a traffic-year in Anambra', Sector Commander says

The sector commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is revealing the state of traffic in Anambra.

Traffic-free road

The sector commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra, has revealed the state of traffic.

According to Mr Sunday Ajayi, there was a reduction in traffic, and in the number of accident-related deaths.

"Last year, we recorded a lot of improvements in areas where we recorded high numbers of deaths and arrests in 2014. The advocacy, sensitisation and enforcement paid off because they involved all stakeholders including religious organisations, government and other agencies including the motorists themselves. There was high level of compliance. 2015 was a year of Operations Sanity to checkmate the active of trailer and tanker drivers.

Unfortunately, we recorded serious carnages involving petrol-laden tankers in parts of Anambra which attracted the attention from many citizens of the country. They were such major incidents that shored up the numbers of deaths. That notwithstanding, our operations were successful and a good feat to build upon in 2016, because there was a drop in offender-offence figures. We also have recorded a reduction in the numbers of crashes, fatality and even deaths; if not for the major incidents mentioned above."

Ajayi attributed this to FRSC's road traffic safety awareness among motorists.
