He made this announcement during the 5th Lagos Corporate Assembly, a forum for public-private sector engagement.

Ambode also said work will soon begin on water transportation in Lagos, adding that this would reduce the traffic jams on the streets.

“The contractors are actually working on the waters for now and by December this year, the project will start running. So, work is seriously ongoing,” he said.

Originally conceived in 1980s, by the Lagos Governor Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the light railway idea was revived by former Governor Bola Tinubu in the early 2000s.

The Blue Line is expected to run 27.5 km, and have 13 stations.

It will run on electricity, with an end-to-end journey time of approximately 35 minutes.

If this opens in December, it will reduce the traffic in Lagos state.
