Super Mario

It's been a long time tme since the world of gaming opened up and sucked us in as children, and we have embraced it and become the gaming pros we are today.

This list celebrates our first encounter's withn video games, our fascination at how fun could be so interesting and intriguing. The following games form the nucleus of stay-at-home entertainment of our childhood. Enjoy!

1. Super Mario Brothers (Console: SNES)

The moustached man in overalls won't leave our childjood memories for years to come. Journeying through eight worlds and defeating goombas to rescue Princess Peach was the ultimate adventure.

2. Contra (Console: PC, SNES, Sega Mega Drive, some DVD players)

This gun-action game was everywhere. Everyone knew about it or imagined it terminator-style. The Co-op play was basically the first experience of that mode which we all love in the Call of Duty's of today.

3. Mortal Kombat (Console: Sega Mega Drive)

This list would not be complete without MK. We played it for hours, wrote down the complex X-Y-Down-Down-Back-Forward-X combos and ruined several controllers (pads).

4. Tetris (Brick Game)

This needs no introduction or explanation. For many, this was their first introduction to gaming. Everyone owned a version of the small handheld game. I even still remember saving some of my pocket money to buy batteries for mine.

5. Street Fighter (Console: SNES)

This combat fighter became popular even before Mortal Kombat. Even after Mortal Kombat came to prominence with its more imaginative fighting styles and finishing moves, no one cared. We just wanted Ryu to give us some Hadouken!

Other games of our childhood that we will never forget include: Crash Team Racing (CTR, Console: PC, PlayStation), Tekken (Console: PC, PlayStation, GameBoy), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Console: GameBoy Color), and finally International Super Star Soccer Deluxe (Console: SNES) which was the only soccer game we knew of before FIFA and PES became popular.
