The new OS X Yosemite (OS X 10.10) features a new update to its Mail and Safari apps, users can now send up to 5GB file via mail drop feature, or mark up images straight in the app before sending them. It has a new face lift with a brighter and flatter design, icon updates, font changes, and translucent materials.
-The New Apple Mac OS X Yosemite In Details
Apple revealed a sneak peek into Mac OS X Yosemite earlier this week. Surprisingly...
In details, here is what we know of Yosemite in The Great, The good and The Bad.
The Great
The new Yosemite comes with an exceptionally nicely done and sleek login screen, newly updated app icons which unlike the OS 7 are very sharp and clean without necessarily being over bright , and also a cleaner and sharper menu bar.
The Good
The change in the default system font from Lucida Grande to Helvetica Neue is fantastic. Helvetica Neue default kerning is slightly tighter than Lucida Grande. The slight change to the Happy Finder icon too is commendable. The icon sure looks a lot happier than the current one. Another good change is the appearance on apps on the default full screen. It looks a lot clearer and better.
The Bad
The not so impressive change in Yosemite is majorly AirDrop icon. The current AirDrop icon in OS X Mavericks has been one of my favorite icons. It is fun, cute, and represents Air-Drop really well. However, to match iOS 7, the new OS uses the "inverse wifi" icon to represent AirDrop. the bright folder icon which is way too bright and probably needs to be toned down before final release.
On Safari, the toolbar UI elements do not fit nicely into a grid. The new tab button is also quite irritating because its placement and size does not fall into a proper grid. The search button is also a bad upgrade. Apple has made all the search input boxes in toolbars look like a button instead of an input box. This makes it hard to distinguish at a glance, forcing you to second guess whether you can type in it.
In all, we think Yosemite is something to look forward to from Apple. Do you agree?
