Agency trains physically challenged people on ICT usage

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, acting director general of the Agency, said the objective of the training is to give people with physical disabilities the sense of belonging

According to media reports, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commenced the second edition of its ICT training for People with Disabilities.

The training started on Monday, and is aimed at increasing the capacities of another 55 People with physical challenges.

‎Opening the training, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, acting director general of the Agency, said the objective of the training is to give people with physical disabilities the sense of belonging in projects and programmes of the Agency.

‎”One of the core objectives of NITDA is to increase human capital development through ICT thereby creating jobs and diversifying the economy, “said Olatunji.

“We feel that we cannot be increasing the capacity of the able ones in our society and living the special people like you and this make this training become imperative because in our own little way you are important part of our society,” he added. ‎“We want you to take the advantage of the training to transform your life. I advise you to have a dream and vision and the government will provide the platform for you to excel.”

‎The Acting DG, in a press statement signed‎ by Mrs. Hadiza Umar, head of public affairs at NITDA, told he participants that they should not see their physical impediments as challenges that may limit the level they can get to in life.

“We are not only training you on ICT alone, we are going to provide you with working tools and make you entrepreneurs and remember that with one ICT entrepreneur we are creating three employees," the statement read.

‎Sharing the success of the first edition of the training with the trainees, Dr. Olatunji stated that 25 out of the 50 people trained are now fully employed.

‎Olatunji advised the participants to see the training as a platform to acquire ICT knowledge with a parting gift of becoming independent after the training.
