Yes, finally. Netflix has announced that it will be available in an additional 130 countries, including Nigeria.
Video on-demand service announces availability in Nigeria
Before the announcement, which was made at CES2016, Netflix had been in only 60 countries worldwide.
Before the announcement, which was made at CES2016, Netflix had been in only 60 countries worldwide. With the new 130 countries added to its list, Netflix will now be in almost every country on the face of the earth.
The announcement was made during the opening keynote speech at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES2016) holding in Las Vegas, USA.
Some of the other countries that will be able to access Netflix apart from Nigeria include South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and India.
Countries such as North Korea, Syria, Crimea, and China – which holds about 20% of the world’s population – are yet to have access to Netflix due to socio-political reasons.
The availability of Netflix in Nigeria will mean much bigger competition for new-age services such as iROKO and more traditional services such as South Africa-based DSTV.
It is however still too early to tell how much market share will go to which platform.
