Apple sold 50 smartphones every second, 13 million units total in 3 days

This number does not even include sales numbers under the company’s new iPhone Upgrade Program, which lets you buy a phone as a service with a 24-month payment plan

Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus

Apple has announced that it has sold 13 million iPhone 6s and 6s Plus smartphones in the first weekend alone, which is a new record for the company having sold 10 million units on opening day last year, and a much lesser 9 million units back in 2013.

Unlike last year, Apple released that iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in China on opening day. Last year, the tech giant waited for a couple of weeks before releasing the phone in China, which is one of the company’s biggest markets.

To put this astonishing number of iPhones sold in perspective, over the past three days, Apple has sold a total of 3,000 phones per minute, that amounts to 50 devices every single second. This is no mean feat by any stretch of the imagination.

This number does not even include sales numbers under the company’s new iPhone Upgrade Program, which lets you buy a phone as a service with a 24-month payment plan with an option to upgrade to a new iPhone every year at $32 model for the lowest iPhone 6s model.

In addition, Apple announced that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be available in 40 additional countries on October 9, kicking off with Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain, and Taiwan.

All in all, Apple says it will have the phones in 130 countries around the world before the end of the year.

It is also important that Apple had previously stated that it was on track to beat last year’s record sales after it sold out the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus via pre-order alone.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is Apple’s latest flagship device and it replaces last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It also comes with many under-the-hood improvements including a much better camera, a sigfnificantly faster chip, snappier Touch ID, and the star feature which is the 3D Touch.
