Tech giant launches Chromecast streaming device with new design

The new Chromecast is compatible with 802.11 ac Wi-FI as well as 5GHz networks, and a triple-adaptive antenna design aimed at making it more reliable in terms of design.

When Google launched its Chromecast streaming device back in 2013, it was an instant success and its not hard to see why since it plays web video from a variety of services and undercuts the cheapest competitors from the likes of Apple TV.

Since then however, Chromecast has not has a major revision, mostly because it didn’t need one. There is one available now though and it is a brand new hockey puck design with a dangling HDMI port, wider Wi-Fi support, and better video, a result of an improved antenna design.

The new Chromecast is compatible with 802.11 ac Wi-FI as well as 5GHz networks, and a triple-adaptive antenna design aimed at making it more reliable in terms of design.

The new Chromecast will available in various colors including standard black, lemonade (yellow), and coral (red).

In addition to that, Google Cast for Audio also gets its own hardware, a dongle that allows you to connect any standard speaker to your Wi-Fi network and use it like a Cast for Audio receiver.

In essence, it’s just a circuit board, and an audio processor, a Wi-Fi radio, and a headphone jack, which allows audio-only apps to stream music direct to local speakers.

Multiple Chromecast Audio units can also be combined to make a multi-speaker system or multi-rom setup just like Sonos but much cheaper. The design is similar to a vinyl record and it has the same Wi-Fi improvements as the new Chromecast.
