Nigerian IT Company Introduces Security Awareness Resources

A new technology that is focused on handling the challenges of cyber threats has been launched in Nigeria.

An Information Technology consulting and capacity building company, Digital Jewels Limited, has introduced a set of security awareness resources aimed at curbing cyber threats in the public and private sector.

This was made known by the firm in Lagos when it introduced the 'Online Wisdom' and 'Secure Sense' platforms, geared towards equipping people with the knowledge, skills and techniques to prevent or detect fraud and ensure online safety.

The Managing Director of the company, Mrs. Adedoyin Odunfa, said that lack of awareness had made it easy for fraudsters to operate leading to significant loss of finances, reputation and credibility.

She explained that the awareness resource pack was a sure way of helping to check mate cyber crimes and other information security breaches, which arise through social engineering.

Odunfa pointed out that 'Online Wisdom' and 'Secure Sense' comprise information security illustrative videos, narrative videos, books, posters and screen savers to eliminate ignorance that have been exploited by cyber criminals and dubious staff.

She also noted that these resources would help create awareness that will ensure that the move towards the cashless economy, by promoting the use of electronic banking channels, does not lead to systemic fraud.

Meanwhile, the Director, e-Government, Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, Mr. Tope Fashedemi, in his keynote address, stressed the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors in the fight against cybercrime.

Speaking on a topic, 'Enhancing information security nationwide: Awareness as a strategic tool', he said that in the issue of cyber security, the ministry through one of its agencies, National Information Technology Development Agency, was doing a lot.

He, however, buttressed that wherever attacks had been successful, it can be reported to and from there be related to other CERTs in other countries where the attack came from.
