Did you think the megapixel war was over? Think again!
Tech giant unleashes new 250-megapixel camera sensor
250 megapixels, theoretically speaking, would offer you the chance to crop a video 125 times and still have HD quality.
Indeed, the attention grabbing number on most modern day cameras tends to be the ISO. However, a high megapixel is still needed for specialized applications – reading the serial number on a plane from 20km, for example.
That is why Canon has made a new 250-megapixel APS-H sensor. APS-H is only slightly bigger than the APS-C that can be commonly found in consumer DSLRs, and actually smaller than the full-frame sensors that can be found in professional cameras.
Basically, fitting 250 megapixels in that space is just plain bonkers.
There are other benefits of so many megapixels though. For example, 250 megapixels, theoretically speaking, would offer you the chance to crop a video 125 times and still have HD quality. Yes, that’s very possible.
Either way you look at it, I think Canon deserves a round of applause for this, even though it’s a little excessive.
