Android Google's mobile OS is now on 2 billion monthy active devices

82 billion Android apps and games have been installed from the Google Play Store in the past year.

Android is now has the largest of any computing platform of its kind and we know this thanks to the staggering numbers shared by Google at its annual I/O Conference yesterday May 17, 2017.

Google announced that there are two billion monthly active devices running Android globally but it is not stopping there: 

  • With new partners such as Emporio Armani, Movado, and New Balance, Android Wear will now enable 24 watch brands across the world. 

  • Android Auto (aka Android for Cars) has seen 10x growth in the last year and it is now supported by over 300 car models. Audi and Volvo are joining that rank and their next gen models will be powered by Android Auto.

  • Android TV (Android OS for Smart TVs) sees one million device activations every two months and doubled its number of users since last year. 

  • Android Things (Internet of Things OS) has not launched yet (it will later this year) but it already has thousands of developers in over 60 countries.

  • Chromebooks can now run Android apps and make up 60% of the k-12 laptops sold in the US. Chromebook adoption has doubled internationally too. 

  • 82 billion Android apps and games have been installed from the Google Play Store in the past year.
