Only the creation of more Almajiri schools can bring an end to street begging in Kebbi State, a government official has said.
'More Almajiri Schools Needed To End Kebbi Street Begging'
A government official has said street begging will not stop in Kebbi state until more Almajiri schools are created.
Speaking in an interview with , the Kebbi State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Isma’ila Abdulmumini Kamba, said it is impossible to stop street begging with current available schools.
According to him, the Federal Government allocated four schools to the state, with only three completed.
"Honestly, three schools allocated to us are not enough and therefore the federal government should allocate more of such schools to us so that we can achieve our objective of eradicating street begging in the state and which is also the main objective for introducing the programme by the government," Kamba said.
The Commissioner said "the fight against street begging requires a holistic approach and government is ready to partner with federal government and any other body that is willing to help in this direction."
He also called on the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Commission to complete the remaining schools, adding that existing local Almajiri schools can be upgraded as alternatives.
