According to PM News, the protesters barricaded the entrance into the university on Wednesday, February 10. Their action paralyzed activities in the school as vehicular movement was stopped.

One of their complaints was that the new administration, which began when Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka took over as the vice chancellor about two months ago, did not communicate with them regarding allowance modification.

A member of staff, who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “The earned allowances are paid with monthly salary. But when we received the alert that the salary has been paid, it was discovered that it was paid without the allowance.

“This we are not ready to take and that is why we have to shut down the system so as to let him know that we will not joke with our welfare. We have bills to settle and that he should know.”

The union advised the school management that they should look into the situation or the staff would have to resort to drastic measures.

Spokesperson for the institution, Tunji Oladejo in response to the crisis, said the strike had no justification as it was unnecessary.
