A memo made public to staff and student of the school revealed that the school senate came to this decision after holding an emergency meeting on Thursday, April 7th.
A protest was held on Thursday where UNILAG students decried the uncomfortable living situation at the school. Students were agitated over the poor electricity and water supply in the school premises. They also protested against the difficulties faced by students living off campus to get to class for lectures due to the fuel scarcity.
The Senate, hereby, announced among other things that all academic activities in the school are suspended. It also said that the school will be shut down and directed that all students should vacate their respective halls of residence.
The senate also directed that no student should remain in the university premises from 10:00am on Friday, April 8th.
The protest on Thursday reportedly escalated into a riot as students took to the streets and shut the gates of the school to demand solution to the lack of basic social amenities on the campus.
