Nigerian Students Won't Infect Us With Ebola — Canadian Universities

According to the Senior Executive Officer of the University of Winnipeg, Jeremy Read, said the institution is providing information about the Ebola Virus Disease to returning Nigerian students, CBC.

“We do have some students coming from Nigeria and because of the Ebola outbreak there, we are just taking precaution," Read said.

But even with the precautionary steps being taken, there are little or no fears that the Nigerian students can cause an outbreak of the disease.

Two source quoted by CBC, Emily Epp and David Datzkiw said they do not see the possibility.

“Am I super concerned that students coming from Africa are going to infect the university? No!” Epp said.

“Right now, we are working with an international student from Nigeria who I am currently taking classes with.

“I don’t think the risk is significant,” Datzkiw

Both universities are not expecting students from the countries with high prevalence of the EVD, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

They are also monitoring guidelines from Manitoba Health, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization.
