Many people, like me, owe their 'on-time-arrival' at their various work places to the fantastic transit system in Lagos State. I take the BRT every morning and I find it quite satisfying, though I would want more terminals and more busses of course - so we don’t have to stand in 2 mile queues.
Anyway I am not writing to praise the BRT system, but to condemn what I see as the typical Nigerian irresponsibility, flouting rules when we could just obey and let peace reign.
We all know that BRT's have a dedicated from which other vehicles are barred – it is called the BRT Corridor.
Now, every day I find several cars – and danfo busses, driving in between BRT busses on the Corridor!!!
Yes, they know it is BRT lane, But it is Really Tempting....
Sometimes, in my anger I just wish that the vehicle be impounded and sold as scrap metal! Harsh as that may sound, one cannot argue that breaking such a simple law is stupid and deserving of punishment.
It’s BRT lane, you see the sign
just like you see the cement line
why then is this your little car
on our BRT lane? Oga answer!
We all remember the case of the Army officer that Uncle Fashola embarrassed for taking the BRT lane...and still we do the forbidden!
I saw at least 10 buses and cars taking the BRT Corridor on that same spot today!
It is because of this that I rejoiced on Tuesday when some security officials made a mess of many of those who thought breaking the BRT Corridor rule is a free for all.
We all blame government for corruption, but how many of us obey simple rules around us?
How many of us help take care of the 'little' government efforts?
If you must follow BRT lane, enter BRT bus!
