17 Students Escape From Boko Haram In Mubi, Over 150 Missing
More than 150 Benue students studying in Mubi have gone missing. Meanwhile Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the town and imposed a curfew.
Student Pulse gathered that seventeen of the students were rescued and taken to the Benue State capital, Makurdi yesterday (Friday).
Narrating their escape-and-rescue ordeal to , one of the students,a 200 Level Business Administration, said it was only by divine intervention that they made it out of Mubi.
Terna said they spent two days in the the company of fleeing military officers as they escaped from Mubi to Maiha Local Government Area.
"Only God knows how many kilometers we walked through the bush and mountains in two days," he reportedly said.
"We had to leave some of our school mates in Katsina Ala Local Government Area for treatment while some of us were brought in here.”
Terna said only 17 of the over 200 Benue students in Mubi could be accounted for.
“Frankly speaking, we are over 200 from Benue State in that university and as you can see, we are just 17 here with few other weak ones in the hospital receiving treatment and I appeal that a search party be urgently instituted to know the whereabouts of the others.”
He called on the government to make efforts to find the missing students.
On Friday, Boko Haram insurgents hoisted the sect’s flag and imposed a curfew.
The capture of Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa state, after the state capital, Yola, shows how much ground the insurgents are gaining at a time when the Federal Government says a ceasefire is being negotiated.
