Outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the al-Shabab attack on the Garissa University College, Garissa, Kenya, in which nearly 150 students were killed.
Students' killing is 'atrocious, despicable and barbaric ' — Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan has said “deliberate targeting of innocent persons, schools and other soft targets by terrorists" is despicable and barbaric.
In a statement from the Presidency, Jonathan strongly condemned “deliberate targeting of innocent persons, schools and other soft targets by terrorists."
"Such atrocious, despicable and barbaric acts of violence ought to have no place in any civilised society," the statement read.
Jonathan also promised to work with Kenya and the international community "to rid the world of all terrorist groups."
Somali militants attacked the Garissa University College in the early hours of Thursday.
They separated Christian students from their Muslim colleagues and killed them before the Kenyan commandos neutralized them.
Al-Shabab in a Thursday statement called the attack an “operation against the infidels,” referring to the targeting of Christian students.
