Nigerian student wanted in hit-and-run accident

A Nigerian student has been declared wanted in a hit-and-run accident that has left one boy dead and another in coma.

The police in Malaysia are looking for a Nigerian as part of investigations into a hit-and-run crash in Jalan Klebang Kechil here last night, which left a teenager dead and another in a coma, Malaysia's Astro Awani reports.Motorcyclist Muhammad Khairul Fiqri Johari, 14, died at the Melaka Hospital while pillion rider, Muhammad Shafiq Arshad, also 14, has been warded at the hospital's intensive care unit.Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the 30-year-old foreigner, believed to be a student at a local university fled the scene after the car he was driving rammed the motorcycle at 11.45pm.He said the Nigerian's 30-year-old compatriot and a 51-year-old local girlfriend were also in the car when it collided head-on with the motorcycle."Following the crash, the driver and the two passengers attempted to escape but the passengers were apprehended by passers-by at the scene," he told reporters here today.Shaikh Abdul Adzis said the missing man's compatriot and girlfriend lodged a police report on the incident at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters early today.He said the police were in the midst of tracking down the missing university student.On a separate matter, Shaikh Abdul Adzis said the police were tracking down a man who was part of a group which committed armed robbery at two business premises in Taman Melaka Raya and Gajah Behrang here on Saturday.He said initial investigations revealed the 29-year-old man had three previous criminal records involving two robberies and a riot in 2004.He said the police had so far, detained the man's two accomplices, aged 21 and 29, in Kampung Banda Kaba on the same day.The duo were remanded for seven days beginning yesterday, to facilitate investigations for gang robbery.
