It has however put the cut-off mark for admission into any of the universities all over the country at 180.

The announcement was made in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, during the Combined Policy meeting held in Nigeria’s capital.

Prof ‘Dibu Ojerinde, the registrar for the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, told reporters that though the cut-off mark has been put at 180, any institution that chooses may increase the mark.

He said, “180 is given and no institution will go below 180 this year, And some universities can go above it, I know Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife will not go below 200 and University of Lagos will not go below 200 and also University of Ibadan.”

“All these ones stand. But 180 is  a bench mark for others.”

Ojerinde restated the Minister of Education’s announcement about the new cut-off mark by saying “for post UTME ,no more writing of post UTME anymore but institutions will screen their candidates.”

This however met protests from the public, who carried placards on Thursday, June 2, 2016, calling for an end to UTME examinations.
