Teliana Pereira became the first Brazilian to win a WTA singles title in 27 years with victory in the Copa Colsanitas final against Yaroslava Shvedova.
Pereira, 26, had not been born when compatriot Neige Dias won a WTA crown in Barcelona in April 1988.
But she came through 7-6 (7-2) 6-1 in one hour and 22 minutes at the showpiece of the clay-court tournament in Bogota.
Kazakhstani Shvedova - ranked 55 places above Pereira at number 75 - looked set to take the first set when she came back from 2-0 down to lead 4-2.
But Pereira broke back in the eighth game to level at 4-4 and stood firm on serve to force a tie-break that she duly dominated.
And Shvedova's hopes of a second singles title were dashed in the second set as Pereira surged into a 5-0 lead before closing the match out by registering her sixth break of serve.
