Frenchman
previously reported that 20 coaches filed in applications to express their interest for the Super Eagles job. From those 20 coaches, the NFF on Friday, July 8 have trimmed down the list to just three candidates.
Heading the list is former Lyon and Cameroon coach, Le Guen who is favourite to land the job.
Top NFF sources have revealed that the Frenchman has already agreed a deal worth N16.2m per month with the NFF.
Le Guen qualified Cameroon for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they crashed out in the first round and the NFF thinks he is the right man to lead the Super Eagles.
The manager’s last job was with the Oman national team from which he was relieved in November 2015.
He had a successful managerial career in France, most notably leading Olympique Lyonnais to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He has also managed Stade Rennais, Paris Saint-Germain, Glasgow Rangers.
Current temporary coach of the Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf also made the cut.
Yusuf, 54, was capped by Nigeria at U20 level, won FA Cup titles with El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri as a player and coached top clubs Kano Pillars,El-Kanemi Warriors and Enyimba FC.
He assisted Super Eagles’ chiefs Samson Siasia and Stephen Keshi (of blessed memory), and was caretaker coach for two friendlies that the Eagles won against Mali and Luxembourg in Europe at the end of May.
Belgian Tom Sainfiet, 43, coached the National Teams of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Yemen, Malawi and Togo, and also worked with the Qatar U-17 side, Young Africans FC of Tanzania and Free State Stars FC in South Africa.
According to the Chairman of the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF, a meeting will hold on Monday, 18th July 2016 to interview the shortlisted candidates.
“We set a criteria with which we evaluated the nearly two dozen applications and then agreed on the three persons that we shortlisted.”
The target of next Super Eagles would be to qualify Nigeria for the 2018 World in Russia.
For the qualification series, Nigeria has been placed in the same group as Cameroun, Algeria and Zambia.
