Maigari and Others Shut Out Of NFF By Court Order

Lawrence Katiken takes over as acting Secretary General

Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo has shut down the Sunday Dankaro Football House; the football administration centre in the country amidst tensions within the football on the resignation/retainment of coach Stephen Keshi.

The minister’s action follows a court ruling barring the present board of the NFF from running football matters pending a judgement on a suit currently sitting on the desk of the Judge at a high court in Jos.

The case was filed by a member of the management board at Bayelsa State club Nembe City, seeking to restrain the president of the NFF from further administration and control in the glass house.

The ruling prompted the Minister to shut down all administrative responsibilities in a letter directed to the Maigari, installing a member of the board Lawrence Katiken to take charge as the acting Secretary General.

The letter reads: ”Further to Suit No. PLD/J 342/2014 and an order of mandatory injunction, issuing from Hon. Justice PL Lot,….you  (Lawrence Katiken) are hereby directed to act as Secretary General of the NFF, and to take over the full management of the NFF. You are to hold this position pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice in the referenced suit.”

This recent court injunction numbers up court cases brought against the resent board led by Aminu Maigari who has only managed to scale through with FIFA’s recognition of his position.

The court injunction comes barely a month before the general election for a new dispensation into the Nigerian Football house.

This development could be interpreted as government’s interference in the administration of the football in the country and it it goes against FIFA's rule on national football administration; Nigeria stands to be sanctioned by the World football governing body.
