Late Cameroon player laid to rest in Yaoundé

The 26-year-old was finally laid to rest on Sunday, May 15 at a final funeral service in Cameroon with hundreds of people in attendance.

Ekeng passed away on Friday, May 6 after collapsing on the pitch just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute in Dinamo Bucharest's Romanian Liga I game with Viitorul.

After a funeral service in Romania, his body was flown to Yaounde where he was laid to rest.

The 26-year-old was finally laid to rest on Sunday, May 15 at a final funeral service in Cameroon with several hundreds of people in attendance.

Cameroon's Sports Minister Pierre Ismael Bidoung Mpatt was also in attendance at the service which held at the family’s family home in Yaounde.

Ekeng's body arrived in Yaounde on Saturday evening and several hundred people attended a wake for the player overnight.

At the funeral service which held at the Dinamo Stadium in Bucharest today, Friday May 13, over 1,000 fans, team players, coaches, leaders came to pay final respect to the late player.

Also at the ceremony was Deputy Chairman of Romania's Professional Football League (LPF) Robert Pongracz, who laid a wreath from LPF.
