Manchester United legend says defender's tackle was 'brilliant'

Roy Keane has opined that the tackle which left Luke Shaw with a double fracture was a brilliant challenge

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has drawn the ire of the club fans by opining that the PSV Eindhoven's Hector Moreno tackle on Luke Shaw as 'a brilliant challenge'.

Shaw suffered a double fracture from a challenge from Moreno in PSV's 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory on Tuesday, September 15.

People have argued that Moreno who was eventually voted the man of the match should have been sent off for the challenge on Shaw.

Keane however is of the opposite opinion.

"I thought it was a brilliant challenge," Keane who captained United from 1997 to 2005 said while speaking as a sports pundit on ITV.

"I love the physical side of the game.

"You can always tell by player reactions and none of the United lads at the time -- and players are the best judges because they are nearest the tackle -- reacted over the top thinking it was a bad challenge.

"And when players are travelling that speed, defending like that, injuries are going to happen.

"I'm surprised there are not more like it. It was more of an accident at the end of it with his trailing foot."
