Super Eagles get new captain

Interim coach of the Super Eagles has named Mikel as the new captain of the team replacing Ahmed Musa
 
 

Nigeria will play the Pharaohs of Egypt in Kaduna on Friday, March 25 with the return leg to be played in Alexandria on Tuesday, March 29.

Ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, game, interim coach of the Super Eagles has named Mikel as the new captain of the team replacing Ahmed Musa.

Musa was named captain by former coach of the Super Eagles, undefined.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the Egypt clash, Mikel thanks his predecessor Musa and said the team is now a new Super Eagles with a new approach.

The 28-year-old made his debut for the Super Eagles in August, 17 2005, when he came on as a second-half substitute in a 1–0 friendly win over Libya.

He played presented Nigeria in four AFCONs (2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013) and was part of the team that won the title in 2013.

The Chelsea midfielder has a total of 64 caps for the Super Eagles, with four goals.
