Players warned against drug use

The Golden Eaglets will kick off their campaign against the United States of America on Sunday, October 18

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have been warned against the use of drugs for the upcoming 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup which will be holding in Chile.

The defending champions will kick off their campaign against the United States of America on Sunday, October 18 before facing host Chile and Croatia on October 20 and 23 respectively.

Ahead of the tournament, world Football ruling body, FIFA has charged the players to stay away from drugs not prescribed by their team doctor.

A team of FIFA officials made up of the General Coordinator, Mario Monterrosa, FIFA Medical Officer Dr. Yacine Zerguini and FIFA Referee Instructor, EsseBaharmest, met with the players and officials of the Golden Eaglets at their base at the Hilton Hotel.

The FIFA officials explained with video presentations the rules and regulations to be followed throughout the duration of the tournament.

During the presentation, Dr. Yacine, a leading orthopedic surgeon and a member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) medical team emphasized the need for the young African Ambassadors to shun advise from individuals other than their coaches and team doctor.

“I want to advise you against taking any drug not recommended by your team doctor not even supplements some people would advise would allow you score 10 goals,” the respected Algerian said.

“There is a need to play safe and with integrity and this is always the objective of FIFA ,” Monterrosa added.

“Of course, there is need to play clean and follow the rules of the game in true spirit of sportsmanship and that is why this meeting is important.”
