The players of Akwa United are getting some financial benefits following their Federation Cup win over Lobi Stars of Makurdi in the final played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Akwa United on Sunday, November 22 defeated favourites Lobi Stars 2-1 to claim their first ever Nigeria Federation Cup.
Nonso Edo opened goal for Akwa United with a 36th minute free-kick which gave them the lead heading into the second half.
Lobi came all out looking for the equaliser but was dealt a blow with an Abdulafeez Awakan rifle which doubled Akwa United's lead.
Barnabas Imengar Jnr who came on as a sub reduced the deficit but Lobi could not get an equaliser.
By this victory, Akwa United will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Akwa United's players received some cash reward from the State governor, Emmanuel Udom who gave them N2m after pledging N1m for every goal scored by his team.
Emmanuel has also N100m to the team to enable it settle all outstanding financial commitments.
Another N2m was also given to the players at half time by Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of the state Akwa Ibom.
