The pressure continues to mount for Jose Mourinho as his Chelsea team was beaten by Stoke City in the English Premier League game played on Saturday, November 7.
Chelsea went into the game after two consecutive losses and were looking to avoid the run of three losses on a row.
The last time they had that run was in 1999.
They started off the brighter side and had much of the ball in the first half.
Eden Hazard played his best game for Chelsea this season, sliding through tackles and challenges and being the centre of everything good from Chelsea.
Ramires’ flick and volley was tipped over by Jack Butland on 22 minutes and then Pedro and Hazard combined with delightful long range passes to set up Diego Costa on 27 minutes, who was again denied by Butland’s outstretched legs.
Stoke City also caught Chelsea on the break with Glen Johnson forcing a save from former Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
Xherdan Shaqiri was also a thorn in the flesh for left Baba Rahman who got a rare league start but the first half finished goalless.
Stoke’s goal came in the 54th minute and it was predictably from the left of Chelsea’s defence.
Johnson sprung forward on the right with Rahman unbale to stop him and swung in his cross. Jonathan Walters and Kurt Zouma battled for the ball which bounced kindly for Marko Arnautovic to finish acrobatically.
Ryan Shawcross got himself on the referee’s book for thrusting a strong arm towards Costa’s face.
The two were all over each other for the duration of the game.
Pedro nearly got the equaliser for Chelsea but saw his curling shot rebounded off the post.
Chelsea brought in Oscar and Cesc Fabregas but could not find an opening.
Mourinho was not on the bench for Chelsea serving a one-match stadium ban for his rant at referee JonMoss two weeks ago.
