Nigerian boys to feature for England Under 17

The English Under 17 side has called up five players with Nigerian descent to take part in a tournament.

Coach of England's Under 17 side Steve Cooper called up 21 players in total, to partake in the tournament.

The Nigerian players to be used are goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, defenders Ajibiola Alese and Bukayo Saka, midfielder Faustino Anjorin and striker Xavier Amaechi.

The trio of Okonkwo, Saka and Amaechi are products of Arsenal's Under 18 team, Anjorin is a talented Chelsea Academy player, while Alese is currently a part of West Ham's Academy.

The English team that won the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World cup had six players of Nigerian descent  (Ademola Lookman, Ovie Ejaria, Sheyi Ojo, Dominic Solanke, Fikayo Tomori and Joshua Onomah )

In recent times, the Nigerian Football Federation board led by Amaju Pinnick have extended invitations to players of Nigerian descent abroad.

It remains to be seen if these players would choose to represent the English or Nigerian senior team in the future.

The Young Lions are grouped alongside Portugal, Germany and Netherland.

England begin their tournament campaign on against Portugal  on Friday, February 9 then on Sunday, February 9 take on Germany, before their final group fixture against the Netherlands on Tuesday, February 13.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to take on he English three lions on Saturday, June 2 in a friendly game at Wembley, London.
