Team Nigeria recorded a third Gold medal in the #Glasgow2014 Commonwealth Games with a dashing run from the African tracks queen, Blessing Okagbare who beat close contest from rival Jamaicans, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart with a time of 10.85 seconds; Campbell came in second at 11.03 while Stewart came in 11.07.
Nigeria’s Gloria Asumnu was eighth on the finish list with a time of 11.41 secs.
Mike Jelks could only manage a fifth position in the Men’s 100m final after coming in with a time of 10.17 secs.
Nigeria could still get a chance at a medal tonight when Folashade Abugan walks out the tunnel for the 400m final.
Meanwhile, WeightlifterItohan Ebireguesele added another Silver to Nigeria’s medal haul after lifting a total of 222kg to come in between Cameroon’sM. Fegue(234kg) and Canada’sM.j Ares Pilon (214kg) in the Women 69kg category.

Nigeria last won a medal in the Commonwealth Games Women's 100m in the Victoria 1994 edition when Mary Onyali and Christy Opara-Thompson mounted the medal podium with a Gold and Silver win; with the feat last night, Blessing Okagbare has once again set a Nigerian record as the first Women's 100m medalist after 20 years.
