The catholic pontiff in his usual vocal manner spoke to journalist on a lot of topical issues and most of all; he said he was not a supporter of the death penalty.

In the letter pope francis said "Nowadays the death penalty is inadmissible, no matter how serious the crime committed," He also stated that “Capital punishment does not render justice to the victims, but rather fosters vengeance,"
Also in a related matter, he sent an official letter to the International Commission against the Death Penalty,stating the catholic’s church unequivocal stand against the death penalty, stating that that there is no justified way to kill a man, no matter his offence.
"Pope francis said he believes in the rule of law, but maintained that the death penalty represents a failure, as it obliges the state to kill in the name of justice. He also decried the sentencing of people to life imprisonment, calling a covert way of death penalty.
